General handyman daytime labour rates
These rates apply to general handyman daytime appointments within the M25. Taxes are included; materials and congestion charges are excluded. For an address outside the M25, request a quote. Confirm the appointment time and applicable rate before booking; specialist services are quoted separately.
| Daytime booking | Minimum one-hour charge | Each additional half-hour |
|---|---|---|
| Monday to Friday | £83 | £36 |
| Saturday | £83 | £36 |
| Sunday | £99 | £44 |
The first half-hour is £47 on weekdays and Saturdays, followed by £36 per half-hour. On Sundays, the first half-hour is £55, followed by £44 per half-hour. A minimum one-hour charge applies, giving the £83 and £99 starting totals above; after that, labour is charged in half-hour periods. The time needed depends on the task, fixing surface, preparation and access.
Longer daytime bookings
| Labour booking | Monday to Friday | Saturday |
|---|---|---|
| Half day: four hours | £260 | £256 |
| Full day: eight hours | £460 | Request a quote |
Discuss the job list before choosing a longer booking. A package is a planned labour period rather than a fixed price for every item on your list. Ask which tasks can reasonably be grouped, what materials need to be ready and what happens if further work is identified.
Appointments outside standard daytime hours
| Booking day | Minimum one-hour charge | Each additional half-hour |
|---|---|---|
| Monday to Friday | £92 | £40 |
| Saturday | £99 | £44 |
| Sunday | Request a quote | Request a quote |
Outside standard daytime hours, the first half-hour is £52 on weekdays and £55 on Saturdays; the minimum charge still covers one hour. Ask which tariff applies to your requested appointment. Sunday appointments outside daytime hours need a separate quote.
Worked examples for shorter visits
The examples below show the hourly calculation only. They do not predict how long an individual repair will take and do not include additional materials or other separately agreed charges.
| Planned daytime labour | Monday to Saturday | Sunday |
|---|---|---|
| One hour | £83 | £99 |
| One and a half hours | £83 + £36 = £119 | £99 + £44 = £143 |
| Two hours | £83 + £72 = £155 | £99 + £88 = £187 |
For example, a short list of shelf fitting, a loose handle and a curtain pole should be prioritised before the visit. Uncertain wall construction or a damaged fixing point can change the work involved. Decide which job matters most, and discuss any change to the planned duration before additional work proceeds.
Use the homepage price planner to choose your jobs and planned duration. Its result is a planning estimate, with your own allowances for materials and access; it is not a site survey or confirmation of a booking.
What to clarify alongside the labour price
Materials and replacement parts
Materials are excluded from the labour prices. Provide photographs, measurements and product details so the right parts can be identified. If you request shopping for materials, the shopping service is £49 per hour, in addition to the materials themselves. Agree the purchasing arrangements beforehand. A similar-looking hinge or tap component is not necessarily interchangeable with the original.
Parking, access and preparation
Mention controlled parking, permits, loading restrictions, stairs and shared entrances when making your enquiry. Explain where tools and materials can be brought in, whether furniture needs to move and when the room can be used. Confirm any applicable parking, congestion or other access costs before booking rather than assuming that the labour figure covers them.
Finishing and waste
Clarify whether the task includes making good the surrounding surface, decorating, removing packaging or disposing of replaced items. Fixing a new fitting and matching an existing paint finish can be separate pieces of work. If you want both, include both in the brief so the estimate describes the result you expect.
When a visit cannot proceed
A £49 survey charge applies where a tradesperson arrives but cannot carry out the work. This is not a general survey fee added to every completed job. Share the task, access and product information beforehand, and discuss any uncertainty about whether the planned work can proceed.
When a separate quote is needed
The general handyman rate does not price every service on this website. Electrical work, gas boiler work, substantial refurbishments and jobs with unresolved defects need their own scope and suitable assessment. Tell us about these tasks even if they sit alongside smaller repairs, so they can be considered separately.
A leak investigation, hidden damage or a larger installation may reveal work that photographs cannot establish. Ask what the quote covers, what remains provisional and how an extra item would be agreed. Do not treat a calculator total for general repairs as a confirmed specialist service price.
Pricing questions
Can I combine several small jobs in one visit?
Yes, put them in priority order and share the full list beforehand. The charge is based on the agreed labour arrangement and time, while the number of tasks that can be completed depends on their condition and complexity. Include photographs of each fixing or fitting rather than only the room.
Does choosing two hours guarantee my list will be finished?
No. A planned duration helps with budgeting, but concealed damage, unsuitable parts or a different wall construction can affect the work. Explain your essential task first and agree how any change to scope or time will be handled.
Are materials included in the hourly examples?
No. The worked examples calculate labour only. Discuss the necessary parts, who supplies them and any purchasing or collection arrangements before booking. Keep packaging and model information for customer-supplied items.
Which rate should I use for a Sunday visit?
For a daytime general handyman appointment within the M25, allow the £99 minimum one-hour charge and £44 for each further half-hour. Sunday appointments outside daytime hours need a quote. The four-hour and eight-hour packages shown above have different stated booking days.
Can I get a fixed quote instead of using the hourly planner?
Send the task details, postcode and photographs and ask whether the scope can be quoted. Some jobs need more information or an assessment first. A fixed quote must describe the included work and allowances; selecting a duration in the planner does not create one.
What should I send with a pricing enquiry?
Send a short job list, photographs showing both the defect and its surroundings, your postcode, access details and any product dimensions or model references. Say if you already have the parts and identify your preferred priority. This helps distinguish the work itself from preparation, materials and finishing.
