FIND THE RIGHT HELP
Everyday jobs.
Proper attention.
Start with the task, rather than the trade name. These are the most useful starting points for repairs in an occupied home or a rental property.
Furniture & odd jobs ↗
Flat-pack assembly, shelving and household fittings, with fixing details discussed first.
Painting & decorating ↗
Wall preparation, touch-ups and fresh finishes for rooms, doors and skirting boards.
Plumbing ↗
Dripping taps, troublesome fittings and small plumbing repairs assessed against the fault.
Locks & door fittings ↗
Handles, latches and lock problems, including doors that no longer close properly.
Need a specialist trade? Explore nine more services
Some jobs need a particular qualification, equipment or a larger scope of work. Describe the problem when you call; do not book a general repair for a specialist fault.
Electricians ↗
Electrical faults, fittings and installation work for an appropriately qualified trade.
Kitchen & cooker installation ↗
Check the appliance, connections and installation requirements before booking.
THE REPAIR LIST
What can a
handyman help with?
A useful repair list describes what is wrong and the finish you want. “The cupboard door hangs low” is more helpful than simply “kitchen repair”. Include the product name or dimensions where you can. Clear details help identify the work and any parts or fixings needed.
| Job | What to discuss before the visit |
|---|---|
| Furniture assembly | The model, size, instructions and room where the item will stand. |
| Shelves & wall mounting | The wall material, item weight, bracket and intended position. |
| Door & cupboard repairs | Where it catches, loose hinges and any damaged timber. |
| Painting & touch-ups | The surface condition, area to cover and paint or finish required. |
| Tap & fitting repairs | The fitting type, fault and any visible water damage. |
| Locks & handles | The door type, existing hardware and how the fault affects closing. |

YOUR HOME, YOUR REPAIR LIST
A small list. A clearer estimate.
Choose your jobs, set the time you want to plan for and see how the labour charge is calculated. Add your own allowances for materials and access.
What is on your list?
Choose several jobs, then set your own planned duration. Task counts do not predict working time.
Specialist work needs a separate quote and is not priced by this general handyman calculator.
Planned working time
Your planning assumption, not a promised completion time.
Materials, access & budget extras
Enter your own allowances. Collection time is charged separately at £49/hour if requested. No parking or materials amount is assumed.

£4608 hours · Monday–Friday
Monday–Saturday 08:00–18:00: £83 first hour, then £36 per 30 minutes. Sunday 08:00–18:00: £99 first hour, then £44 per 30 minutes.

One-hour minimum; further time rounds up to 30-minute periods. Labour rates include taxes. Materials, collection and access costs are separate where applicable. These prices cover general handyman work. Outside daytime hours, specialist work and visits longer than eight hours require a quote.

ONE LIST, NOT SIX SEPARATE CALLS
Bring the small
jobs together.
A shelf, a loose handle and an unfinished flat-pack can often be discussed as one visit. Group the work by room and put the essential jobs first. Mention anything that needs a second person, tall access equipment or particular replacement parts.
Combining tasks is most useful when the materials are ready and the work suits the same trade. A leaking fitting and a boiler fault may need different appointments. Ask what can realistically be completed together, rather than assuming every job fits one booking.
For several rooms, a short written list helps everyone agree what is included. Keep optional extras separate so they do not obscure the original brief.
A USEFUL FIRST CONVERSATION
From repair list
to planned visit.
Describe the work
Call 020 3078 5925 with your postcode, priorities and approximate sizes. Mention the number of items and the condition of the surface or fitting.
Agree the scope
Discuss the appropriate trade, expected time, materials and price basis. Ask how additional work would be agreed if a hidden problem is found.
Arrange the practicalities
Confirm the appointment arrangements, who will provide access and any building restrictions. Check parking, lift access and permitted working hours before the visit.
Before the tools come out
Clear the immediate work area and move fragile belongings. Keep assembly instructions, brackets, paint references and any purchased parts together. In flats, check arrangements for communal entrances and service lifts. If a tenant or managing agent will provide access, agree the contact person beforehand.

RENTAL HOMES & MANAGED PROPERTIES
A handyman
for landlords, too.
Between tenancies, small faults are easier to deal with before they become the next occupier’s first complaint. Bring together cupboard adjustments, loose handles, tired sealant and decorating repairs in one prioritised brief.
For property maintenance in London, explain whether the home is occupied, who authorises the work and how access will be arranged. State if you need an invoice reference or an update for a managing agent. Ask about any required records before booking; general maintenance does not replace specialist inspections or certification.
Start with the handyman service for a mixed repair list, or painting and decorating when the main task is preparing rooms for the next tenancy.
LONDON VISITS
Start with
your postcode.
Find local service information for your London area, then call to confirm coverage and current availability for your address. Mention the full postcode when you describe the work.
For central locations, mention loading restrictions, controlled parking and access through shared buildings. These details help plan a workable visit, especially when tools or larger materials need to reach an upper floor.

BEFORE YOU BOOK
The questions
worth asking.
Can I book several small jobs together?
Yes, you can discuss a combined list when you call. Give the priority order and the number of items. The scope, materials and appropriate trade need checking before the tasks can be grouped into a visit.
Do I need to supply the materials?
Tell the team what you already have and ask what can be supplied. Check responsibility for purchasing parts, their cost and any collection time before booking. Do not buy replacement fittings on appearance alone; sizes and compatibility matter.
Is the work charged by the hour or by the job?
General handyman visits have a one-hour minimum, followed by 30-minute periods. Four-hour blocks and weekday eight-hour blocks are also shown in the calculator. Materials, collection time and access costs are separate where applicable. Confirm the scope and total before booking.
When do I need a specialist rather than a handyman?
Electrical faults, gas work, significant plumbing changes and larger refurbishment jobs need the appropriate specialist. Describe the fault before booking and check relevant qualifications. Gas work must be carried out by a suitably qualified Gas Safe registered engineer.
Can you help with repairs in an occupied rental home?
Call to discuss the work, tenant access and who will approve the cost. Mention the landlord or agent’s requirements at the start. Appointments and any requested paperwork need agreeing for the individual job.
Can you mount a TV or shelf on any wall?
The wall, load and fixing system must be suitable. Give the item weight, bracket details and any information about the wall construction. Some surfaces or locations need assessment or a different installation method.
How soon can a visit be arranged?
Call with your postcode and the job details to check current availability. Timing depends on the work, location, materials and suitable trade. Confirm the actual appointment arrangement when you call.
What if more work is needed once the job starts?
Ask in advance how changes to the brief are handled. If the condition of a wall, fitting or timber reveals another problem, the additional scope and cost should be discussed before you agree to proceed.
